New trail

Greeting! I have not posted in a long time! Time as been an issue and fitting in writing just was not happening. So here is a short and sweet little post about a new trail I discovered in my neighborhood.

I had some extra time to myself last weekend and made a point to make sure I got in some outside time along with my list of to-do’s. There is a great greenway system here in my town, basically concert trails. I don’t usually spend much time on them.  I have to drive to reach them, the one closest to me is a mile or so away. Usually when I go out to walk or run, I just pick a route that I can start right outside my front door.  I have a few that work out great for me and I enjoy.

I have been wanting to explore the greenway close to me for some time now and last weekend gave me the perfect opportunity. The path starts in a local park and I had walked part of it before but I knew it went a few mile outside the park, this was the portion I was interested. And much to my surprise, I found an offshoot trail that truly felt like hiking!!! NO CONCRETE!!!

I have grown to love hiking over the last few years! I love the quiet, the scenery, the acting like a kid and playing. Just being in the woods is restorative for me. This goes back to me childhood, we spent hours playing in the woods both at our family farm and at the babysitter’s. My cousins or friends and I would head out and just play and pretend and have a grand time!! We were free and could do as we wished! Oh how I miss those time….but that is a talk for another time.

With life being as it is right now, hiking is not something I get to do very often.  There are not a lot of places close that have more than a mile or so long trails. Don’t get me wrong those short trails are nice but not always what I want….I want to hike for miles! To have that feeling of being tired but refreshed all at the same time when finished.

By combining parts of the greenway and the offshoot trail, I got in a 3.5 mile walk on Sunday. It was great!! I will definitely be working this into my routine when I can, my goals is at least once a week. I may not be able to always fit the entire route into my schedule but that is ok. There are a few different entry points so shorting it if I need to is an easy option. I wish I would have found this a few years ago! But I am happy to have found it now!!
