Laundry…

Oh laundry…..you are not my best subject or favorite thing to do!  I am not good about pretreating and just want the laundry detergent to take care of it all….I know, big dream!  And I have hard water too. Kind of a bad combination!

I have been looking for and trying different natural laundry detergents for a few years now and just have not found one that I like and works well.  I have made my own and tried a few different natural ones. The stuff I was making myself seemed to work well at first but one day I noticed it wasn’t doing as well as I thought. I think that the clothes started to show the buildup that had been happening all along.  The last two products I have tried worked better than the homemade but one was just too expensive to keep using, even though I liked it. And the other works fairly well but not best…..although I do use it for all my other cleaning (more on that later!).

I discovered a new product to give a go! Molly’s Suds.  I stumbled upon the laundry powder while just browsing items on Thrive Market and I figured it would not hurt to give it a try….even if I didn’t like it, I could get through one bag and then try something else.  Turns out I do like it!

This little bag of soap has a different smell to it compared to any other I have used, peppermint!  A nice change of pace IMO, but you can order it from their site without the oil in it.  I wondered if I
the scent would stay in the clothes but it doesn’t.  They have an “A” rating from the Environmental Working Group.  Their products and suppliers are certified cruelty free and vegan.  And they are made in the USA…always a good reason to buy for me.  The laundry powder has no fillers or GMO ingredients and it’s gluten/nut free.  You can find out more on their site, http://mollyssuds.com/.

The first load I washed with this detergent was kitchen towels and napkins, and white!  Might as well start with a real test, right?!  I was pleasantly surprised that the load came out clean, fresh and bright!  I do have some stains that were already in the fabrics and I will work on getting those out in the future.  Molly’s Suds website has great tips on how to deal with existing stains. As per the instruction on the bag, I added distilled vinegar to the load…helps with the hard water. I have done a couple other loads, including my microfiber cleaning rags that I use for my part time cleaning job…they see some nasty stuff at times.  The rags are the softest they have been since I first purchased them!  I have not had any major spills to try and get out yet but everything I have washed has come out smelling fresh and being clean!

I am glad that I have found Molly’s Suds and will keep using it. Be sure to check out their about page for the back story on this company, it is touching and shows the passion they are putting into it.  I do plan on also giving their other items a try…very interested in the All Sport Laundry wash.  But for now I will continue with laundry powder only and keep you posted on my thoughts about it and other products as I try them.
